OhioHealth offers 21 emergency care locations and three trauma centers in central Ohio and the surrounding area. Our staff and physicians have access to the resources of an entire healthcare system nationally recognized for quality and outcomes.

As the name indicates, Emergency Departments provide immediate, expert treatment for emergencies — severe and life-threatening conditions. Many of these we have listed below. Meet Our Team

Our emergency and trauma care team includes highly skilled specialists with a full range of expertise. They're supported by a network of experienced healthcare professionals. Each contributes unique skills and experience.

At each of the three OhioHealth trauma centers, we have multidisciplinary trauma response teams. They include heart, lung, orthopedic, spine and stroke specialists. Our teams also include highly skilled trauma and plastic surgeons, and many other experts. They work closely together to handle life-threatening illness and injury – from emergency care through comprehensive rehabilitation.

During your stay at OhioHealth, you will also have help from support teams, such as social services or pastoral care, if you desire it.

Professionals who may contribute to your emergency or trauma care include:

  • Advanced Practice Providers – Specialists with advanced training who work closely with your doctor to address complex medical situations. Examples include trauma nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
  • Anesthesiologists – Medical doctors with advanced specialization in administering medications to support vital functions and manage pain. They care for patients before, during and after surgery.
  • Emergency Medicine Physicians – Doctors with advanced specialization in providing all medical services necessary to diagnose and treat serious illness or traumatic injury.
  • Emergency or Trauma Nurses – Specialized nurses who have advanced training in emergency care. They collaborate closely with doctors and other trauma team specialists, taking a hands-on role in delivering expert care.
  • Lab Technicians – Professionals who perform microscopic tests of blood, tissue and fluids under the supervision of a medical technologist or doctor. Your doctor will use these test results to diagnose and treat your condition.
  • Medical Social Services (Case Management/Social Workers) – Patient and family advocates who work as part of your care team. They can assist in various ways, from finding needed information and resources to counseling in times of emotional distress.
  • Paramedics – Specialists who provide emergency medical treatment or other care before and during transportation to a hospital .
  • Radiologists – Doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating medical conditions using imaging techniques such as X-rays, CT scans, MRI and ultrasound.
  • Residents – Licensed doctors supervised by an attending physician who has completed a residency program with specialized training.
  • Trauma Surgeons – Surgeons with advanced trauma care expertise. They perform immediate surgical procedures as needed in the event of serious or life-threatening illness or injuries.
